Tiverton Civil Parish is shaped rather like a reversed capital L. It stretches from Bickleigh Bridge in the south, but does not include Bickleigh itself, to the northern boundary north of Cove. To the west it includes Withleigh but not Washfield or Calverleigh, and to the east it goes as far as East Mere. This is the boundary of the ancient borough of Tiverton. Ninety percent of the land area is deeply rural with the vast majority of the population centred in Tiverton itself. Outside of Tiverton and the Link Road transport connections are mainly narrow country lanes with steep banks, steep hills and narrow bridges.
The River Exe flows from north to south and the River Lowman also flows through the town with its confluence with the Exe just to the south of Tiverton town.
